When placing art above furniture such as sofas, groupings of chairs, or console tables, visually assess the amount of space between the furniture and the ceiling, then fill two-thirds of that space with pictures.

As a general rule of thumb, art hung over a piece of furniture should not be longer than the width of the furniture. Make sure the artwork relates to the size of the table or sofa below it, and keeps to a general principle of being about 75% of the furniture's width.

This photo provides a great example of art NOT in scale with the furnitire (or the wall space). This picture is much too small over the sofa and simply becomes insignificant and lost on the wall.

Given the larger scale of the armoire, the two larger pieces of art side by side do a great job in balancing the weight of the furniture piece. Color, in addition to the size of the art, can also add to the weight visually.
